BEING BORING – More Dead Gay Artists

Fri 17 Feb - Sat 4 Mar | 7 hours Darren Knight Gallery

An exhibition of Sydney gay art history including works by Phillip Jacobs (1958-2018), Philip Juster (1952-2004), David McDiarmid (1952-1995), Bill Morley (1949-2007) and Jasper Havoc (1952-1979) curated by Robert Lake.

Between 2001 and 2004 Robert Lake curated a series of exhibitions on recent queer art history. This is the first time he has returned to that series.

The four featured artists Jacobs, Juster, Morley and McDiarmid were in the same circle of friends. They were interested in nature, art, politics, men, music, drugs, sex and dancing. They made their own art, clothes, mixed tapes and entertainment from the 1970s, creating their own world in what would become known as Sydney’s gay ghetto.

BEING BORING – More Dead Gay Artists includes painting, drawing, banners, clothing and ephemera from this time.
