Lonesome

Thu 23 Feb - Sun 5 Mar | 1 hour 35 minutes Dendy Cinemas Newtown

Fleeing a scandal in his hometown, a country boy navigates the easy sex and pervasive loneliness of big city Sydney, in the erotic and moody drama Lonesome.

From award winning filmmaker Craig Boreham (Teenage Kicks) with sizzling performances from hot newcomer lead actors Josh Lavery and Daniel Gabriel along with the iconic Ian Roberts, Lonesome is new queer cinema for the Grindr age. Hot on the heels of a sell-out international festival tour, Lonesome kicks off its national cinema release during WorldPride at Dendy cinemas around Australia. You won’t want to miss it!

Reviews

Looking like an archetypal wanderer right out of a Western, Casey (Josh Lavery) ambles along deserted country roads in the soft dawn light, dressed in regulation blue jeans, white T-shirt and cowboy hat. The casual ease with which he hooks up with a stranger in a truckstop restroom paints him as a Joe Buck for the Grindr age, while the film’s title — if not its tone — also evokes Andy Warhol’s Lonesome Cowboys. The Hollywood Reporter

If this doesn’t qualify as Australia’s first explicitly gay Western, writer-director Craig Boreham (Teenage Kicks) has got as close as anyone I can think of. The Age

Writer/Director Craig Boreham is one of the leading filmmakers working in Australian queer cinema right now. With Dean Francis’ glorious cinematography and Tony Buchen’s immersive score, and driven by Josh Lavery’s stoic lead turn, Lonesome becomes a fascinating and engaging exploration of a young gay man seeking connection.
