Ross Watson Exhibition

Thu 23 Feb - Sun 5 Mar | 6 hours Comber Street Studios

See for yourself why Ross Watson’s WorldPrideNYC | Stonewall 50 exhibition was a festival favourite, attracting the attention of the New York Times and ABC TV America.

Internationally acclaimed artist, Ross Watson premiers his latest artworks in this must-see exhibition.

His latest work from the Dioramas series, featuring the men in imagined dreamlike settings will be presented alongside iconic favourites and classic imagery. Surfers, soldiers and football players, compete for attention, in a celebration of queer icons and the male form. These stunning realist paintings and Limited Edition Prints will be available for purchase with complementary worldwide shipping on all artworks.

Censorship of nudes in art by social media has not deterred Watson from painting his passion. Spurred on by the former High Court Justice, Michael Kirby, to address why the full frontal male nude is rarely seen in contemporary art and art museums, the artist’s skillfully explores this subject, with examples of the full frontal male nude included in the exhibition.

Watson’s art was included in the important 2022 landmark Queer exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria and his portraits of queer icons Matthew Mitcham and Ian Roberts are amongst the most popular in the National Portrait Gallery. His art is held in many important private collections, including Sir Elton John.

Breaking with tradition from the usual commercial gallery expectations, a multi-media experience awaits all visitors, where you can meet the artist, who will be signing copies of his popular books and learn first-hand about his inspiration and intention behind his artworks.

With free entry for all visitors, and just a short walk from Taylor Square this unmissable exhibition is sure to be the highlight of your Pride Amplified experience.

This is a FREE, drop-in event!
