Australia’s largest dedicated gender expression store opens its shop and art gallery for the LGBTQIA+ community and allies during WorldPride.
Sock Drawer Heroes (SDH), Australia’s largest gender expression online store, opened SDH HQ in 2022 hosting monthly pop-up shops, art exhibitions by trans and gender diverse artists, and LGBTQIA+ community events.
During WorldPride 2023 SDH HQ will open its doors every Saturday between 10am – 4pm. Visitors can browse and get advice on gender affirming gear including chest binders, tucking underwear, packers, as well as shop for LGBTQIA+ books, games, apparel, accessories and more. During this event, SDH will be displaying artwork by local trans and gender diverse artists to celebrate World Pride.
This is a safe space for LGBTQIA+ people and allies of all ages to come and connect with community, get advice, and access affordable gender affirming products which can be life-changing, and have previously been difficult to access in Australia.
The last hour of the event is sensory-friendly. This is to help reduce anxiety and sensory overwhelm for those who benefit from a calmer environment. SDH have been working with Autism Spectrum Australia to create an autism and sensory-friendly space.
